Barne's Cat Snake

It is an endemic snake species in Sri Lanka. There are 5 Boiga species in Sri Lanka and this is the smallest growing upto 80 cm.

This species has many colour varieties. It ranges from Reddish brown, yellow to Black. Brown and Grey colours are the commonest of them.

Like all other Boiga species it is nocturnal. Spends the daytime inside tree holes or in bushes. This species is more calm but when threated tries to bite.

Feeds on amphibians and small reptiles. Can be found in forests. Distributed in rainforests and montane forests below 1200m such as Kitulgala, Sinharaja, Runakanda, Kanneliya, Riverston, Peak Wilderness, Balangoda Norton Bridge and many other places.

It is a mildly venomous and a rear fanged species.
