Powerful, majestic, misunderstood. Unlike most fish, Great whites are warm blooded and are able to generate their own body heat which is usually 10 degrees warmer than the surrounding water. This allows them to not only survive but thrive in colder waters. But in order to maintain their body temperature, Great whites need a regular source of energy rich food such as seals.

Great whites are also rather long lived, with an estimated lifespan of 70 years. They can reach speeds of up to 35 mph for short bursts of speed and can hit their prey with so much force that they can kill their prey instantly. When several Great whites gather to feast on a whale carcass, rather than going into a feeding frenzy they have surprisingly good table manners, they take it in turns to feed with the feeding order being determined by size, the largest shark eats first. And finally, did you know that Great whites have blue eyes.
