A fascinating local tale surrounds the origin of Bakerβs Bend. It is said that British Governor Baker frequently traveled along this route. On one fateful day, his horse lost its footing and fell off the cliff, though the Governor miraculously survived. Saddened by the loss of his loyal companion, he had the bend designed in the shape of a horseshoe to honor the memory of the horse that faithfully carried him through his journeys.
